Recycle!

So, why should we recycle?

Well, as I drove around my community, Boulder City, NV., I was appalled by the waste set at the curb by so many neighbors. I observed numerous cardboard boxes (recyclable), plastics, a wood pallet (worth money and recyclable), and lots more.

First, all of this material is going to our rapid filling landfill, like so many other community's landfills. So we are now burying ourselves in our own garbage, as I professed in the 1970's.

Second, I thought of all of the energy we were wasting by not reusing much of this material. Our country has long been a disposable society, so, instead of recycling or reusing many products, we toss them on the garbage heap.

Look at the small country of Switzerland. They reuse, recycle, and then burn much of their waste. Also, many European countries totally recycle everything from automobiles to, well, most everything.

Our communities need to do more, we cannot afford to wait for our federal government. We have to be the pioneers of the old west, and just do the right thing by recycling -- and start now!

I will be posting pictures of waste I find that could be recycled, and pics of the good things that communities are doing in this blog. Let me know how you feel, and let's get to work!
